VP, Finance, Latin America, Laureate Education
Sylvie is currently VP of Finance Latin America for Laureate Education. Laureate is a global network of higher education institutes, with a mission to make quality higher education accessible and affordable. Sylvie joined the finance team at Laureate in 2003, and has helped drive its growth from a company with a handful of institutions in a few markets to a global network that today has 1 million students.
Sylvie’s career evolved from financial analysis to acquisitions, operations and strategic planning in support of Laureate’s rapid expansion. In 2005, she relocated to Mexico City, leading M&A and turnaround efforts. She served as CFO for UNITEC, a Mexico City-based university that attracts students from lower- and middle-income families, and later as regional CFO of Mexico/Central America. In the 7 years she was based in Mexico City, Laureate’s Latin American business grew from 160,000 to 570,00 students. In 2012, Sylvie was chosen to lead the newly-created Latin America regional financial planning team.
Sylvie began her finance career in the energy sector, beginning with Cinergy Corp.’s nascent international division and later at the National Energy Group.
Sylvie received an MBA from Wharton and an MA in International Studies from the Lauder Institute at the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to her business studies, she received an MA in French literature from the University of Cincinnati and University of Paris, and a BA in Jewish Studies from the University of Chicago. She lives in Miami with her husband and son.
